Precautions:
CNS depression; decr respiratory reserve; high doses, prolonged use; restricted salt intake (Clear, Rapid Soluble); renal, hepatic impairment; poor CYP2D6 function; children < 7 yrs
Adverse Reactions:
Dependence; GI upset; dizziness, drowsiness; haematological reactions; rash (rare)
Interactions:
Anticoagulants; sedatives, tranquillizers; drugs affecting gastric emptying; chloramphenicol; hepatic enzyme inducers incl alcohol, anticonvulsants; CYP2D6 inhibitors
Dose:
Adults, children > 12 yrs: 2 tabs every 3-4 hours; max 8 tabs daily. Children, 7-12 yrs: 1/2-1 tab every 3-4 hours; max 4 tabs daily
